October Events at Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose

Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose’s October events will feature activities that will be nature-inspired. Using objects found in nature, children can create a diorama, construct a relief with clay or dough, make a leaf print and contribute to a collaborative quilt.

In Kids’ Garden, children can explore the beauty and wonder of the garden through a variety of activities designed to encourage little green thumbs, weather permitting. Saturdays in October children can bring their own special set of clothes - or use ours - and create a scarecrow to take home.

In the Art Gallery, artworks inspired by trees were created as part of an in-development exhibit project that encourages outdoor exploration and recognizes trees as an important inspiration for a child's creative and active play.

For the budding thespians, there are drop-in theatre workshops, no experience necessary! Come in on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30am to noon for That’s What Actors Do. Acting exercises are so much fun, they have come to be known as Theatre Games. Children can experiment with their voice, body, and creativity in a variety of short 20-minute improvisation activities led by trained Museum staff. If music is more to their liking, take them to Move to the Music on Wednesday and Friday, 10:30am - 12:30pm. Children can move their bodies and express themselves to a variety of exciting rhythms.

Join the Children’s Discovery Museum for a weekend of healthy fun including dancing, hula-hoop fun, family jazzercise and more with Kick Start Eat Smart on Saturday, October 11, 10am - 5pm and Sunday, October 12, noon - 5pm. At seasonal Kick Start Eat Smart weekends throughout the year, children and their families can take part in fun, interactive activities that encourage healthy eating and staying active. Visit the Rainbow Market and shop for pretend fruits and veggies in the farmers' market, then design a pizza using a colorful rainbow of foods to stay healthy.

Kick Start Eat Smart is a partnership between Kaiser Permanente and San Jose Children's Discovery Museum. For more information and colorful food ideas, visit http://www.cdm.org/kickstart.

The museum is located in downtown San Jose at the intersection of Woz Way and Auzerais Street. Parking ($5 - $7) is available in the city lot on Woz Way on most days. Because of events scheduled in the surrounding downtown area, you may wish to consider using Light Rail or the Bus on the following dates: October 5-9 and 30-31.
